The president and the first lady have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Two hours after it was announced a top aide had tested positive, President Trump tweeted early Friday: “Tonight, (the first lady) and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

Minutes later, Melania Trump’s Twitter account added: “As too many Americans have done this year, (the president) and I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good and I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe and we will all get through this together.”

Earlier Thursday evening it was announced that Trump aide Hope Hicks had tested positive, and Trump was already quarantining, awaiting test results. Hicks accompanied Trump both on his trip to debate Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in Ohio on Tuesday and on a subsequent campaign trip to Minnesota on Wednesday.

The news comes almost a month before the general election Nov. 3.
